Sholeh Asgary’s soundscapes of repetitious actions, created with the innate properties of everyday objects around her, access visual sonic landscapes. The viewer/listener’s faculties are posited equal material to sound through which one can travel in and out, an image of the world through the physical aural realm.

Cyrus Yoshi Tabar creates music inspired by his family history. Many elements converge in the premiere of his piece Mehpareh inspired by the grandmother he never had a chance to meet. In searching through the memorabilia of his family, a reel-to-reel tape surfaced which includes a short section of recorded audio. On this tape, Mehpareh, Yoshi Tabar’s grandmother, sings. This recording is the inspiration for his performance. Along with textural sonic landscapes, Yoshi Tabar experiments with percussion influenced by Iranian and Japanese rhythms.

Sholeh Asgary is an Iranian born multidisciplinary sound artist, educator, and organizer. Her multi-disciplinary studio works address the way objects can create disambiguation and break down representation by utilizing painting, photography, light, sculpture, and sound to create environments with a particular interest in liminal spaces that are experienced by the viewer. She was the Director of Public Programs and Education at Incline Gallery (2014-2015), during which time received an Alternative Exposure Grant from the Andy Warhol Foundation. She was an artist in residence at Krowswork in Oakland, CA, Flux Factory in Long Island City, NY and The Wassaic Project in NY, and received her BA in Studio Art from San Francisco State University, and her MFA from Mills College.

Cyrus Yoshi Tabar is a filmmaker based in Oakland. He uses filmmaking to explore personal histories in perpetual motion. As a first-generation Iranian-Japanese-American, Cyrus externalizes the ambiguity of his identity into vibrant landscapes on the screen. His work has screened at Slamdance, CAAMFest, Antimatter Media Arts film festival. He currently teaches at California College of the Arts.
