1275 Minnesota St / Bass & Reiner

André Moya

What better time to be thinking of yourself than now? From a variety of angles, André Moya has been examining who he is, how he presents to the world, and how the world sees him in turn. A touring musician as well as a painter, Moya knows all about the value of a stage persona or someone you are for others. In a suite of a dozen self portraits he crosses a variety of styles in more or less complete fashion allowing him the freedom to consider aspects of himself and run them to an end. Or not. This isn’t self absorption, it’s self awareness…and maybe a bit of self construction. Manufacture through examination.

Bass & Reiner arranged the show so that it’s visible entirely from outside the gallery space. The practical implication being that even when the gallery isn't open, no one is being left out. You needn’t occupy Bass & Reiner's tiny space during a pandemic to see the show. But also, Bass & Reiner aren’t naive to the fact that by turning the plane of view sideways we’ve made our show into a wall, a facade that prevents the viewer from proceeding beyond it. Enjoy it on both fronts.

Email Bass & Reiner to make an appointment or just come look through the window.
