Opening Reception: Saturday, August 27th, 6pm-8pm

This show is a pause – a moment for me to stop, focus and listen. The work comes from my time at the Headlands where I had created a domestic installation of sorts. That installation was built around the idea of reforming identity after the end of a long relationship - figuring out who I am as an individual after 12 years of figuring out who I am with someone else. That installation was an emotional space of building a tenuous beginning of a structure of a new self by way of new surroundings, new home, etc. The space was made to make work in, for me a raw and haunted space of timelessness that bridged the past and the future by way of precarious architecture. The work I made there is in this show. This work and this show come from a desire to take stock of my own assumptions about who I am and where I’m going and to pull them apart and hang them up to examine, to let them exist for a moment as objects. The works also come from finding my own marks within moments both of confidence and experimentation - but mostly moments of letting go of the outside world and being in my own space and making work from there. I'm interested in a flattening of multiple spaces, marks and times into a single plane. I want the big ideas to evaporate in this space into objects and moments and bits and pieces. This show in some ways is a chance to pare down to the components of the work, to simplify into form and emotion, color and material, physicality rendered digitally and a back and forth with that and therein maybe a back and forth in time and real space and bigger and smaller ideas. I'm hoping this show is one of restraint and simplicity in a way, that the works get to be themselves instead of operating in service to a bigger installation...
