IRRATIONAL OBJECTS

Opening Reception | September 3, 2022 | 3pm

With his surreal and uncannily abstracted metal forms, reductivist Marc D’Estout once again demonstrates his love of minimal statements that, with subtle and sly references to natural phenomena, pop culture and politics, manage to be beautiful, funny and chilling, sometimes all at once. D’Estout’s artworks resist telling us too much about their life histories and secrets. They seduce us with striking forms and surfaces that give us hints, luring us in to divine their messages.

Most of Marc D’Estout’s sculptures are hand formed, welded and finished metal, each carefully painted or finessed with unique surface qualities and color. They are refined explorations in formed metal that allow particularly challenging new shapes to evolve and are carefully contoured. At times, he significantly alters, and adds to, found objects, creating new entities out of the old.
