1275 Minnesota St / Themes + Projects

For the spring season, Themes+Projects gallery presents a new black and white photography exhibition and book titled, "Of Paris" by Sean Nolan.

While Paris has been a muse to many great photographers of the past: Atget, Cartier–Bresson and Brassaï, in fall 2014, San Francisco Bay Area artist, Sean Nolan had the opportunity to spend five months exploring the city. Nolan’s philosophy was to go “behind,” “beyond,” and “around” with his camera to find new perspectives and create his vision of Paris. Inspired by beauty of the city, Nolan’s critical eye for composition and his intuition to capture ephemeral moments led to this timeless collection of photographs.

The book, Of Paris, accompanies the exhibition and is the fourteenth publication by Modernbook Editions (publishing division of Theme+Projects). The book contains seventy-two images with foreword written by Harper Levine and introduction by Sean Nolan. Of Paris keeps in the tradition of past publications such as: Hong Kong Yesterday, The Living Theatre by Fan Ho, and San Francisco Then by Fred Lyon.
