Since 2010, Rhizome's Seven on Seven has paired visionary artists and technologists, and challenged them to make something – an app, an artwork, whatever provokes their creativity. Through creation, this initiative explores how art and innovation can complement, sustain, and enhance one another. Join Peter Rojas, a partner at betaworks and Seven on Seven cofounder, and Tracy Chou, former Pinterest engineer and 2016 Seven on Seven participant, as they discuss this enduring program and the ways they've integrated cultural thinking and practices into their leading technology work.
Peter Rojas is a partner at betaworks ventures. He co-founded the tech blogs Gizmodo, Joystiq, and Engadget, and was VP of Strategy at AOL as well as Co-Director of AOL Alpha, the company's experimental product group. As former Chair of the Rhizome Board, he cofounded Seven on Seven in 2010.
Tracy Chou is a former Pinterest engineer and Quora engineer. In 2014 she was named one of Forbes's 30 under 30 in tech and has been profiled in Vogue and WIRED. In 2013, Tracy helped kick off a wave of tech company diversity data disclosures with a Github repository collecting numbers on women in engineering, and she has become an accidental activist on the issue of diversity in tech. She's also an advisor to Homebrew VC and on reserve with the U.S. Digital Service. In May 2016, Chou and artist and writer Claire L. Evans collaborated for the 8th edition of Seven on Seven; see their presentation here.
