"I am sure I am not alone in feeling psychically bruised," Henderson writes. Exhausted by the unraveling of the American body politic over the past eight years, the new works in Henderson's exhibition are born out of this sense of fraying, the sinking levels of discourse and the normalization of political violence. Pineapples, simultaneously connoting wealth, hospitality and historic and deplorable land grabs, represent the absurdity of the present: "somehow I still find them to be the most comical of fruits (except of course the banana)."
