The San Francisco Arts Education Project
Opening reception: January 12th | 6pm–8pm
This special exhibition features the works and visual dialogues of Bay Area artist, activist and educator Richard Olsen, an SFArtsED Master Artist. The show includes multimedia works dating back decades that have been unearthed and re-arranged, evidencing themes that Mr. Olsen has investigated his entire career as both artist and educator. The show also features a weekly, year-long visual dialogue between Mr. Olsen and his friend, the artist Csaba Polony, as well as pieces created with his students in schools where he is currently teaching through SFArtsED’s Artists-in-Residence program.
Mr. Olsen has worked with SFArtsED since 1993 as a mentor in the schools, in after-school programs and in arts summer camps. He has conceived and curated numerous exhibitions for the organization, including exhibitions at Rena Bransten Gallery, San Francisco Art Commission Gallery, The Diego Riviera Gallery at SFAI, Catharine Clark Gallery, the Mills Building, and the SFArtsED Gallery at Minnesota Street among others. In addition to his work with SFArtsED he was an educator at Edgewood Center for Children and Families, Gateway Charter High School and has taught and lectured at San Francisco Art Institute and California College of the Arts.
