Anton Kern and Andrew Kreps to Open Temporary Space in San Francisco

by Alex Greenberger

Just two weeks after the news that Gagosian Gallery is opening its 16th space, in San Francisco, Anton Kern and Andrew Kreps announced that they, too, will join in on the action by opening a joint space in the city. They’ll launch their temporary gallery on April 28, a little over two weeks before the reopening of an expanded SFMOMA on May 14.

Kern and Kreps’s temporary gallery will be at 1275 Minnesota Street. The gallerists were invited to open a space by the Minnesota Street Project, which was founded by Deborah and Andy Rappaport to enliven San Francisco’s art scene. The project has already funded studios for artists, and now, with the Kern/Kreps joint gallery, it seems to be setting its eyes on well-known galleries with more cachet. The inaugural show at this temporary space has a stacked artist list: Ricci Albenda, Andrea Bowers, Anne Collier, Roe Ethridge, Mark Grotjahn, Eberhard Havekost, Goshka Macuga, Chris Martin, Matthew Monahan, Robert Overby, Wilhelm Sasnal, Michael E. Smith, Hito Steyerl, Padraig Timoney, Erika Verzutti, and Pae White. A release doesn’t include any information about when the temporary space ends its run, but the show will remain on view through May 21.
