Erica Deeman

Erica Deeman’s work visualizes themes of identity, gender and race. Through the portrait she engages her audience to question the way in which they evaluate the face through their own visual expectations and historical portrayals. Deeman’s work explores the tradition of portraiture and identity and the importance of the photograph at the forefront of this conversation.
Deeman is dual heritage, Jamaican and English. She was raised in Nottingham, England and holds a degree in Public Relations from Leeds Beckett University. Moving to the States in 2011, she completed a BFA in Photography at the Academy of Art in San Francisco. 

Deeman’s first body of work, "Silhouettes," has been displayed at SF Camerawork,  and "Collected" (May 2016 - January 2017), at Pier 24 Photography, San Francisco. She has been featured in SF Chronicle, Habitat Magazine and LensCulture. In addition, her work has been displayed in the Royal Photographic Society Print Competition 158 at The Old Trueman Brewery, London and other museum locations within the UK.
