Brooke Waterhouse founder of Project One launches Project2Gallery with the inaugural exhibition UnBranded featuring the work of Nick Flatt with Paul Punk.

Project2Gallery is a nomadic gallery that responds to a radically shifting moment at the crossroads of the San Francisco Bay Area art scene where technology, finance, and pop culture merge to revolutionize the 21st-century global art market. Waterhouse is passionately committed to bolstering the art landscape in the Bay Area by continuing to support artists through individual representation, artist development, and  live/work residency programs.

Brands and their associated marks maintain a steady and enduring presence in how we see ourselves. Today, brands and artists share access to the same distribution platforms, both sides freely pulling from the same toolbox. Artists can now steer the market space with their brands as efficiently as commercial brands navigate the sidewalks of our visual landscapes. In turn, the boundaries are blurred, governing who owns or influences the creation of the branded message and its synthesis into popular culture.

UnBranded presents the collaborative efforts of artists Nick Flatt and Paul Punk as they offer a revised visual landscape which confronts the agendas of institutions by deconstructing brands and their signifiers. Flatt and Punk engage in a game of resistance and exchange between the consumer and the creator through the introduction of an array of images that dialogue and disrupt received brand codes. Mirroring the steady shift towards the decentralization of our financial markets, their sculpture like paintings reveal the tension between our digital identities and the experience of “self” as it has been shaped historically, socially and spiritually throughout the ages.

Nick Flatt (b.1981, Texas, USA) gained attention for his large scale photo-realistic portraits. After moving to Berlin, Flatt began gaining international attention for highly detailed and political street murals. Influenced by the growing underground scene of urban abstraction in Berlin, he spent three years experimenting and honing a broad range of techniques. His abandonment of one stylistic approach has given him the ability to produce across a broad spectrum, disrupting the idea of branding, in the creation of rich and diverse exhibitions.

Paul Punk (aka Punk) (b. 1980, Berlin, Germany) is a Berlin-based graffiti artist who started experimenting with the medium at age twelve. He is the founding member of Berlin graffiti crew GSW, and has been working with Nick Flatt for the last 4 years. Punk gained attention in Europe for his precision hand styles, often done with repetition and political overtones.

Project2Gallery is pleased to accept bitcoins for specific art pieces on sale during the exhibition.
